How Lakeland is working to prevent shootings on campus

Across the country, school shootings are in the news. At the University of Alabama on Friday, Feb. 12, biology professor Amy Bishop shot and killed three school employees and injured three others over an alleged tenure dispute.
On Tuesday, Feb. 23, a 32-year-old man shot and wounded two middle school students as they were boarding the school bus in Littleton, Colorado. Math teacher David Benke is reported to have charged and tackled the shooter. April will mark the anniversaries of both the Columbine and Virginia Tech massacres.
Financial aid employee is honored at luncheon for work performance

Lakeland student employees were honored at the Student Employee of the Year Nomination Luncheon in Laun on Thursday, March 4.
The winner of the Student Employee of the Year (SEOTY) Award was Jeff Christensen of the financial aid department. Christensen, through his hard work and dedication to Lakeland's financial aid department, was also offered a position as a graduate assistant.
Residence Life sponsors month-long program about sex education

Coins for Condoms may sound funny, but it is an educational program for girls taking place in Arthur M. Krueger Hall at Lakeland during the month of March. It is being coordinated by Jessica Lillie, a resident assistant in Krueger Hall.
This program has a game-like feeling to it.
Some students feel events were medicore

Spring Fling took place at Lakeland from March 1 to March 5. LC-CAB was in charge of the week's events. Monday night's feature was the movie "Brothers," shown in Bossard Hall. According to senior history major Joe Janisch, "The movie was an entertaining event with a solid turn out, the southern half of Bossard was mostly full.

On Thursday, March 4, the first-ever Lakeland Mosaic Concert was held at 7:30 p.m. in the Bradley Theatre. This program was put together by the creative arts division and was inspired by Instructor of Instrumental Music and Director of Bands Russell Pettitt.
Annual Best of the Midwest Convention in Minneapolis

The Lakeland College Mirror staff won three awards at the Best of the Midwest College Newspaper Convention in Minneapolis on Feb. 14. The staff won third place in "Best of Show" and two individual awards in feature writing for Danny Spatchek and Jessica Lillie.
