Tows are too much

Disney destroying childhoods with sequels

Issue date: 2/9/06 Section: Opinions
Does it bother anyone else that Disney has taken the liberty to destroy a good portion of our childhood memories? I know that they are a big, bad corporation that has touched the lives of many, but now they have gone too far.

The number of sequels popping up for movies that were released, in some cases, 63 ½ years ago is sickening. The original movies were good and definitely had the Disney flare that we are all accustomed to, however, these continuations to the stories are pathetic.

They are not nearly as good as their counterparts preceding them. For example, "The Little Mermaid II" while a novel idea, to a point, completely undermines the original.

While the second film still follows the theme of wanting to be something you are not, which most people can relate to, and the "fun" feeling of the original, it leaves too many unexplained questions between the two movies to be enjoyable for a former "Little Mermaid" fan to watch.

For instance, where in the heck did Ursula's evil relative, Morgana, come from? There was never a mention of her in the first move, obviously because they never planned on making a second at that point, which would have been a good idea had they stuck with it.

Also, I find it a little too convenient that Melody, Ariel's daughter, has a seemingly unchanged Sebastian with her, and no one acts as if this is strange even though there is no explanation as to how she met him in a normal course of life and found that talking to animals was somehow normal.

This year "Bambi II" will be coming out for a grand total of 70 days on DVD to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the date that Walt Disney originally started working on the original "Bambi." Please tell me why after over 60 years of being released "Bambi" needs a sequel. It doesn't.

Not to mention the fact that in the original "Bambi", Bambi grows up, and in "Bambi II" he is actually a child. Now tell me how that works. Did he suddenly decrease in age or something?
