Lakeland Women's Tennis kicked off the season with a fizzling loss to non-conference foe Lawrence University 0-9. The Muskies were outscored overall 96-6 in this miserable loss.
Not a single set was won for the Muskies the entire event. First seed Lisa Hentges lost (0-6), (2-6). Making college debuts, second and third seeds Lindsay Crum and Cortni Jablenski were both defeated (0-6), (0-6). Also veteran, Andrea Schuchart was swept (0-6), (0-6). Fifth and sixth seeds, Brittany Kazik and Jennifer Huang lost (1-6), (0-6) and (1-6), (1-6) respectively.
Doubles pairs of first team Hentges/Crum, second team Kazik/Jablenski, and Huang/Schuchart all lost with scores of (1-8), (0-8), and (1-8).
Lakeland lost to Ripon College 0-9 on Wednesday Aug. 6. In this non-conference bout, Lakeland's first seed was awarded to Lindsay Crum, fought valiantly but eventually falling (3-6) and (4-6). Number two seed, Lisa Hentges forced a third match by winning her first (6-4), before losing her final two sets (1-6) and (4-6). The Muskies' third, fourth, fifth, and sixth singles Cortni Jableski, Andrea Schuchart, Brittani Kuzik, and Jennifer Huang all lost in two sets only scoring four points between them..
In doubles play, the teams of Crum/Hentges and Jableski/Kuzik both lost (4-8) and the team of Schuchart/Huang fell with the score of (1-8), giving the Ripon Red Hawks the sweep.
Avenging two straight 9-0 losses to Lawrence and Ripon the women's tennis team did a little sweeping of their own defeating the Mount Mary Blue Angels 9-0. Lindsay Crum and Lisa Hentges, Lakeland's one and two seeds, made quick work of their opponents with scores of (6-1), (6-4) and (6-1), (6-3). Cortni Jablenski won her first set easily enough (6-2), but lost a tough second set, losing (6-7). Jablenski, not willing to submit, claimed a well-fought third set (8-6), taking the match. Fourth and fifth spots, Andrea Schuchart and Brittani Kazik both swept their opponents (6-0) in both sets. Sixth seeded Jennifer Huang also won her match (6-1), (6-0).
Doubles teams performed excellently as first team Hengtes and Jablenski won their match (8-2), second team Schuchart/Kazik shut out the blue angels (8-0). Debuting team of Fanny Xiong and Jenny Rivers also went undefeated winning (8-0), sweeping the Blue Angels.
Traveling to Milwaukee to take on the MSOE Raiders, the Muskies dropped another match, losing (8-1). First seed, Lisa Hentges lost both of her sets (2-6), as second-seeded Courtni Jablenski fell (5-7) and (1-6) and third seeded Andrea Schuchart lost (2-6), (0-6). Brittani Kazik held the only personal match win as she followed up a first set loss of (4-6) by battling back to win the second two (6-1) and (10-7). Fifth and sixth seeds, Jennifer Huang and Fanny Xiong fell with scores of (0-6), (0-6) and (0-6), (4-6).
