Lakeland football won its fifth straight conference opener against Greenville on Sept. 23, with a score of 28-13. After a high-strength non-conference schedule that left the Muskies with a record of 0-3, this win begins the defense of the CheeseBowl, which has been in Lakeland's possession for two years straight.

MacArthur White had an amazing day with seven catches for 110 yards plus 92 yards earned on special teams, finishing the day with 212 all-purpose yards. In addition, White had three touchdowns on the day, two touchdown receptions and an 89 yard kickoff return.

This scoring kickoff return could not have come at better timing, as the score matched Greenville late in the first quarter. White's touchdown grabbed the momentum back from the Panthers.

Just before half-time, junior quarterback Brad Wilk, snapped the tie inside the red-zone with a 15 yard pass to White putting Lakeland up 13-7.

Also adding scores was sophomore Brandon Erdman with a three-yard touchdown run. Another Wilk-White hook-up, this time for 33 yards, put Lakeland up 28-7 before a Greenville five-yard touchdown pass from Bryson Taylor to Dominic Kegel.

Wilk completed 10 of 18 passes with 143 yards and two touchdowns to White, while Erdman finished with 94 yards on 16 carries and a touchdown.
