With the beginning of the season out of the way, the Men's soccer team looks to improve upon its record in conference play in the newly formed Northern Athletics Conference. The men's team is currently 2-7 overall with their two wins coming in conference play.

In a tough match against UW-Whitewater, the Muskies failed to produce offense against a stout, Warhawk defensive player. The Warhawks managed to hold Lakeland to a single shot on goal, frustrating an offense that has had troubles producing scores.

After their game against Whitewater, the Muskies then returned home where their frustrations broke in a 3 to 1 win over Maranatha in conference play. Kevin Fitchett and Scott Kress used their heads to find the back of the net with the same individual feeding them the crosses that led to scores.

Ryan Malo, striker, charted three assists in the game that brought the Muskies to a 1-1 record in conference. This performance also won him conference player of the week, and a top slot in the record book. He is now tied with two others for most assists in a single game.

After their game against Maranatha, the Muskies hit the road for a very tough match against MSOE, former conference opponents. The game was a shoot out, with the final score favoring MSOE 4-3 over the Muskies. Goals in this game came from three different players, Zach Buchman, Peter Czajka, and Ted Cormier, continuing the scoring routine established in the previous game.

The Muskies returned to conference play though in a glorious fashion, netting 4 goals against a Marian defense. The game had a potential to give the Muskies their first shut-out, but a penalty kick in the 22nd minute for Marian found its mark. Four different players, Scott Kress, Tom Class, Peter Czajka, and Ted Cormier, tickled the twine for Lakeland, continuing their scoring drive of 10 goals in the last three games.

Lakeland plays its next game against Concordia on October 10.
