Stop Schuler

The politics of sports

Corey Kempf

Issue date: 10/5/06 Section: Sports
It's just not in our nature to allow the person who disgraced a city for years return to become the face of it.

Especially a man who lists "Great Character, Great Work Ethic, Great Vision, and Great Leadership Skills" as his best attributes on his campaign website. Did he really have great character by holding out for that contract? Did he really have great vision when he threw 33 interceptions opposed to just 15 touchdowns?

Can you blame the poor sports fans of Washington for feeling a bit unwilling to trust this man with making decisions for the country? There was even an article written in the Virginian Pilot entitled "If Shuler tried to pass a bill, would it be intercepted?"

Even though we're far away from the 11th District of North Carolina, I urge everyone to join the cause and set an example. We, as loyal sports fans, refuse to tolerate the crummy play of so-called sure-fire draft picks, but will support said draft pick in whatever venture they choose after football, as long as it doesn't include running our city, state or country.

Besides, isn't Tony Mandarich banned from Green Bay for life by now? If he isn't, I'm starting a blog.
