Forrest also was awarded three other awards. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's "Taking the Pulse of the Planet Award" an award that is given to projects that help to understand and predict changes in the earth's environment, and the "Mu Alpha Theta Award." The later award is given to the project with the most challenging, original, and creative approach of a problem using mathematics. The United States Navy and the United States Air Force awarded Forrest his final award of that day. This award recognizes his excellence in high school science fair projects.
Second place was awarded to Peter Atkins and his "Cydia Pomonella Comparison in Apple Varieties," also from Bayfield High. Atkins also won the trip to Atlanta, Ga. to compete in the Intel ISEF. Atkins was also awarded the "Ricoh Sustainable Development Award." It recognizes projects with the most environmentally friendly and socially responsible ideas. The "Honorable Mention" award went to Rita Carlson, again from Bayfield High.
The United States Navy and the United States Air Force awarded all three high school students for their excellent science fair projects.
Jessica Gagnon, junior and chemistry club founder, chemistry lab manger, and the president of the chemistry club said, "I thought the fair went really well, especially for it being the first time we have held one! The projects were impressive at both the high school and middle school levels, and I am looking forward to more participation next year."

The high school students competed for a chance to enter in the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair in Atlanta, Ga. It is obvious.
