The women's soccer team is now 4-4 on the season and 1-1 in conference. After a tough defeat to St. Norbert 6-1 giving up most goals in the final minutes of the game, the ladies found victory against their conference opponent Concordia University Chicago on Sept 13 (3-1).
"We made adjustments and had good practices. But we started to relax after our first goal and I think that hurt us a little bit and gave them a chance to tie it up." Lakeland head coach David Madsen said. "We picked it up us the half went and we had to pressure them defensively."
The Muskies had a strong showing as freshman forward Lindsay Rodgers scored all three goals in the game. Rodgers now leads the team with seven goals.
"Lindsay had a nice goal where she chased down a defender and stole it," Madsen said. "She is adapting quickly to the collegiate game. She is such a calm finisher and has a certain savviness in the box."
"It feels good to win." Rodgers expresses about the season and the win. "I just am really grateful for my teammates. I like the team and when we work well together, we play well and come away with wins."
The Muskies went on to play Dominican and suffered a tough loss (0-3). The half was tied 0-0.
"Dominican is always a strong team and their goalkeeper is good." Madsen said. "We started the game and the first half strong and I felt we were playing well with them."
Dominican was able to get all three goals in within the first 15 minutes of the second half.
"We had a couple of dangerous chances to score in the first half, but we didn't really get a ton of chances overall." Madsen said. "After the half, they just start capitalizing on our mistakes and were able to put some goals in."
The Muskies were again able to redeem themselves against Ripon College (1-0). Kristi Borts was able to boot in a free kick in the first half to score the only goal in the contest.
"We're able to play with teams and when we play the full 90 minutes, we are a tough to beat and we give ourselves a chance."
The next game is against Rockford this Saturday.
"In order for us to beat Rockford, we need to play as a team, work off the ball, and create opportunities to score."
The game is set for Sept. 27 at noon.
