The Lakeland Men's soccer team finished with a great non-conference match against Finlandia on Saturday, Oct. 18. They won 9-0 with seven different players scoring.

Troy Eichenberger (sophomore) and Danny Spatchek (sophomore) both had two goals. The other Muskie goal scorers in the win were: Ted Cormier (senior), Ben Koepsell (sophomore), Jacob Kleinschmidt (freshman), Rodolfo "Tito" Sosa (freshman), and Jake Belknap (freshman).

"We were trying to do a couple things to create some chances," men's soccer coach David Madsen said. "We got somewhat lazy mentally near the end of the first half, but the guys did a good job keeping the flow of play moving in the second half."

This was also the day of the Kickin' for a Cure fundraiser. The men's and women's teams both wore pink t-shirts in support of the fight against breast cancer. This was a very successful day for both teams and for the event.

On Oct. 21, the men played a very exciting game against Marian in Fond du Lac, Wis. Marian was holding their own against the Muskies the whole game, but in the end the Lakeland men proved to be the better team. Derek Pitterle (sophomore) scored the game-winning goal at the 70 minute mark after Marian's goalkeeper mishandled the ball.

"In the second half, we squeezed them a little bit with our attack," Lakeland coach David Madsen said. "We won a lot of the 50-50 balls and asserted the pace of play. We were able to contain (Marian) defensively as well."

With a great cheer from the stands, the Muskies went home with a well-earned win.

After the heavy rain flooded the soccer fields, the men's game against Aurora was rescheduled. They ended up playing on Sunday, Oct. 25. The men played a hard-fought game and battled until the end of the game, but eventually took a 2-0 loss against the Spartans. On this day, the two class seniors on the team, Cormier and Sosa, were recognized for Senior Day.

Cormier currently has 26 goals and 13 assists, both second in school history. Sosa has scored three goals in this, his only year playing for Lakeland.

The Muskies return to the field on Thursday this week to play a rescheduled game against MSOE at 3:00.
