For those of us not quite fortunate enough to take a trip over this holiday season, we get to stay home and work (if that's possible these days). Each month, the unemployment rate seems to keep getting higher and jobs are disappearing left and right. But guess what-restaurants, shopping malls, and many other locations realize that this is the craziest time of the year. So what do they do? They hire people for a few weeks starting from right before Thanksgiving to mid January to help out with "Black Friday" and other holiday shopping/events. So with some help from snagajob.com, I have created the top ten seasonal jobs for the 2009 holiday season.
1. The top place to seek employment is… (drum roll please) Toys R Us. I myself recently had an interview there, and got a call the NEXT DAY from a manager ready to offer me a job. Toys R Us is at the top of the holiday shopping destination list, because Santa's elves can't make everything themselves. This kids' coliseum of fun holds great job opportunities this season.
2. Wal-Mart is PACKED with customers this time every year. There are shoppers that range from people looking for cold medicine, turkey and the fixins' for Thanksgiving, to those looking for gifts. Whatever it may be, in this crappy economy, people are looking for value-and Wally World is where it's at. They are looking for many different types of employees, from stock boys to cashiers-so take your pick. You can apply online (to more than one location at a time) at walmart.com under CAREERS.
3. Target, like Wal-Mart, is another "one-stop-shop" location for the holiday season. They often run specials on holiday décor for the home and on pricey gifts such as electronics. They are looking for holiday help around the clock, with chances to work as a cashier, in customer service, in stock, and in overnight positions. You can apply today (to more than one location at a time) at target.com under CAREERS.
4. Kohl's department stores also hold ample chances for holiday employment. You have an opportunity to apply to work in whatever department suits you best (home/men's/juniors/shoes/cashier/etc.) Kohl's also offers overnight positions for those who don't like to deal with customers that start you off at a full dollar more per hour than those who choose to work during the day.
