Director of Student Activities Kaye Martin first saw Sonner perform when she and the LC-CAB executive board went to the Northern Plain Regional Conference of the National Association for Campus Activities (NACA) in April of 2009. Martin said that it is "a big deal" for a performer to be showcased at NACA.
According to the NACA Spotlight Showcase booklet, Sonner has performed with artists such as Colbie Caillat, Third Eye Blind, and Sara Bareilles.
"She sounds a little bit like Norah Jones to me," Martin said.
Martin said that Sonner "sounded like an angel," and that at the end of her performance, Sonner admitted that she had swallowed her breath mint, which to Martin was both funny and hard to believe because she had sung so beautifully.
Sarina Wiesner, LC-CAB comedy/concert coordinator, said of Sonner, "She has a beautiful voice, and is a very gifted guitar player. There were lots of other female solo artists [at NACA], but she was clearly the best."
Sonner is originally from Denver, Colo. and has been traveling all over the country performing her music for the past three years, and she is "armed with a loyal fan base, a solid acoustic sound, and a sultry unforgettable voice," according to her MySpace.
To listen to Jessica Sonner's music, check out her MySpace, myspace.com/jessicasonner, or watch her perform live in the Pub on the 28th.
