These three people will all participate in a total professional makeover, from résumés and business cards to hair styles and business attire.
On Wednesday, Feb. 10 at 7 p.m., the makeovers will take place in Bossard Hall. Contestants will receive haircuts on stage courtesy of Entourage Salon while the audience looks on. During the cuts, there will be a presentation by Amanda Guralski, a young professional from the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
Career Services Counselor Jess Lambrecht said, "Amanda is going to talk about professional image and why that's important, how to dress the part, and how to afford to be a professional as a student or a recent graduate. She's very animated, so she will capture people's attention, and I think she will relate to the students really well."
After the haircuts are complete, the participants will have their hair styled behind the scenes to keep the audience in suspense. During this time, several friends of each of the contestants will be asked about their friend's style. According to Lambrecht, questions like, "What do you think about their style? Why do you think they need a makeover? What are they going to love or hate about this?" will be asked to make the event even more interesting.
Katrina Woltring, a graduate from Lakeland who works for Clinique, will provide makeup for the contestants, and each of them will have a suit as well as a business casual outfit in which they will showcase their finished makeovers.
Lambrecht said, "They will be borrowing their outfits, and as a prize we're giving the contestants money to put towards their clothing. They're also getting business cards, an updated résumé, some products from Clinique, and the haircut."
But the contestants aren't the only ones who will walk away with some free stuff that night. Audience members will have a chance to win prizes as well, including free haircuts at Entourage Salon and some giveaways from Clinique.
"We've never done anything like this," said Lambrecht. "My goal is for the students to feel like they are really getting prepared for the job search or internship search process."
A person could either apply to receive a makeover or be nominated for one, and the winners were chosen through a blind selection process so that the judges did not know the names of the applicants.
This is a Passport and Champs event.
