Lakeland freshman, Ryan Renon, earned his twentieth win this season by defeating Aaron Bergen by a major decision of 12-4. This victory showed the home crowd the type of aggression and skills he has at 184 pounds. His victory put Lakeland up 24-13. Then, Lakeland freshman, Chris Weber, received a forfeit to make the score 30-13.
At heavyweight, Adam Sutter pinned Travis Pagel in 2:28 before breaking a sweat to give Lakeland the final 36-13 victory over Concordia.
"It was a good way to go out. We know this isn't it and we still have the most important part of the season coming up," Sutter said.
This season's motto has been to "leave it all on the mat". In order for these guys to reach the goals they set out, they need to realize they are capable.
"They know they've got to keep pushing themselves to keep their dreams alive. As I coach, I need to help them push past their limits," Rogers said.
"I know I have to prepare these guys like I have all season. I want them to know they deserve what they get. All the effort, blood, and sweat that has gone into this season will hopefully pay off. I preach about working harder than the next guy and I pray it works out," said Rogers.
Lakeland's next match will be Jan. 29-30 for the two-day Pete Willson-Wheaton Invitational, which is considered by many as D3's toughest invitational in the nation.
